AFTER years of taking a beating from the favored University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers, the Don Bosco Greywolves finally bounced back as they take the win in an exciting game against the Baby Lancers 76-74.
Alvin Mendez finished the game with 14 points to lead all scorers for the Greywolves.
The game's intensity started early as the Greywolves put three quick baskets in the first two minutes of the ball game.
The Baby Lancers immediately responded, led by captain Jancurk Cabahug, who registered seven consecutive points including a go ahead three pointer to give the lancers their first lead.
Baby Lancers guard Maglasang who finished with 14 points also started hot in the ball game.
The Greywolves struggled late in the first quarter after their starting point guard, Jaybie Damolo got in an early foul trouble committing two quick fouls that sent him to the bench.
The Baby Lancers ended the quarter with an eight point lead 20-12.
In the second quarter, the Greywolves continued to struggle with the lancers second unit missing eight of their 14 shots.
Damolo added two more fouls giving him his fourth personal foul going into the second half.
The Greywolves managed to hang around as they made two quick baskets off a steal to narrow the lead to just six, 39-33.
In the third quarter, the Greywolves' hustle on defense made the difference as they tied the game with only two minutes left in the quarter.
The baby lancers took advantage of their size as they kept grabbing rebounds inside and immediately responded taking back the lead 58-54 to end the third quarter.
The game became tight in the final quarter as both teams continued to play hard both in defense and on offense causing four lead changes in the first three minutes of the quarter.
The baby lancers continue to take advantage of the free throw struggle of the Greywolves allowing their team to have their largest lead of the game 68-60
However, the greywolves sparked a comeback late in the game led by Gato's brilliant offense who also finished with 11 points including a clutch three point play with 1:22 remaining, giving their team the lead 72-73.
The baby lancers tried to respond but had a hard time matching up the Greywolves intensity on defense causing them to give away two costly turnover.
The greywolves had the possesion with 26 seconds remaining in the ball game when Baby Lancers forward Richmond Rosete made the clutch steal and a lay up to put their team up by one.
After grabbing the rebound off a missed free throw from Rosete, the Greywolves pushed the ball for a layup but missed.
Patrick Dela Torre was there to clean the board for the Greywolves taking back their lead.
The Baby Lancers tried to respond but a series of costly turnovers was made in the last 15 seconds of the ball game.
The Baby Lancers had the chance to win the game at the buzzer but failed to convert giving their team their first loss of the season. They now have a 1-1 (win-loss) record in the season.
The Don Bosco Greywolves escaped with the victory 76-74, after years of losing from the Baby Lancers.
Meanwhile, the Ateneo De Cebu Magis eagles win in a blowout against the Cebu Institute of Technology Baby Wildcats 36-82
