Trips to Hundred Islands suspended due to monsoon rains

ALL trips to the Hundred Islands National Park (HINP) had been suspended Monday, August 15, due to heavy rains brought about by the intensified southwest monsoon.

A report from the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), quoting Mayor Arthur Celeste, stated that the Philippine Coast Guard has suspended all trips to the Hundred Islands until further notice.

The public, particularly tourists, have been advised to coordinate with Tourism Officer Solomon Tablang for any concern regarding this matter.

Governor Amado Espino III suspended classes in all levels in Pangasinan on Monday due to continuous monsoon rains.

The PIA said the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMC) has advised the "no swimming policy" on any coastal area is now in effect due to the stormy weather.

The PDRRMC also advised households to store imperishable goods and supplies that will last for two to three days and know the safest routes and evacuation sites as soon as possible.

Espino called on the people of Pangasinan in his Facebook post on Monday not to panic as the water level of the San Roque dam in San Manuel town as of 6 a.m. Monday is still too far from reaching its spilling level of 280 meters above sea level.

Motorists were advised that the Padilla road in Dulig, Labrador, is not accessible for the meantime due to an overflowing creek as a result of intensified monsoon rains.

Public Order and Safety Office (Poso) in Dagupan City reported to Mayor Belen Fernandez that all roads to and from the city are still open to all types of motor vehicles as of Monday noon despite that some low-lying barangays were already underwater.

Two families from Barangay Malued, Dagupan, have so far been evacuated to the barangay hall due to flooding in their area.

A report said the water level of Marusay river in Calasiao and Sinocalan river, which both empty in Dagupan, have risen a few feet above their normal level as of Monday noon. (PNA)
