GUNMEN killed a bus driver and robbed its passengers of P300,000 cash and valuables in a highway robbery in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police said Monday, August 15.
Zamboanga del Sur Police Director Michael Nicolas said that the incident took place around seven a.m. Sunday, August 14, in the village of Proper Dimaya, Dinas municipality.
Nicolas identified the fatality as Diosdado Ritisa, the driver of the passenger bus of the Baganian Transit that plies the Pagadian City - Tabina route and vice-versa.
Nicolas said that the bus was en route to Pagadian City coming from Tabina town when they were waylaid by seven gunmen in the village of Proper Dimaya.
He said one of the gunmen shot Ritisa after they ordered all the passengers to disembark from the bus.
He said the gunmen divested the passengers of P300,000 cash, assorted jewelry and mobile phones and fled towards the river at Sitio Balot in the village of Binuatan, Dinas.
Nicolas ordered the conduct of a thorough probe to unmask the gunmen behind the incident and for five other municipal police stations to assist the Dinas police in the conduct of the investigation as well as monitor the whereabouts of the suspects.
The police stations tasked to help in the investigation are that of the municipalities of Dimataling, Tabina, San Pablo, Pitogo and San Miguel.
