Cebu City mayor told: Support PNP again

SO THAT the fight against illegal drugs and criminality will be successful, the Cebu City Council wants Mayor Tomas Osmeña to reconsider his decision withdrawing the City’s support to the police.

Councilor Pastor Alcover Jr., during the council’s regular session Tuesday, said the maintenance of peace and order in the city is not only the job of one agency.

I ask Mayor Osmeña to set aside politics and vengeance for the sake of Cebu),” he said in a privilege speech.

According to Alcover, the City Government is now in an awkward situation after the National Police Commission (Napolcom) revoked Osmeña’s deputation and withdrew his operational supervision and control over the city’s police.

He said the City is seemingly operating without having any knowledge of the maintenance of peace and order and the public’s security and safety.

He believes this will have grave effects on businesses, tourism and other economic activities. Alcover has expressed his concern over the series of killings happening in different parts of the city.

The extra-judicial killings are being exploited by criminals),” he said.

Alcover is hoping that Osmeña will change his mind and reconcile with the police as soon as possible.

Andam ug tagana kining representasyon sa amihanang distrito ug inyong kauban niining halangdong konseho nga moluhod atubangan ni Mayor Osmeña aron awhagon siya nga ituyok 180 degrees ang iyang desisyon (I am ready to beg for Osmeña to reconsider his decision),” he added.
