Western Visayas crime rate drops by 17%

CRIME rates in Western Visayas reduced by almost 17.13 percent for seven months, according to the Police Regional Office at Camp Delgado in Iloilo City.

Police Regional Office information officer Superintendent Gilbert Gorero said the crimes recorded from January to July 2016 in the region totalled 34,057 cases, which are 7,040 cases or 17.13 percent lower compared to 41,097 crime incidents during the same period in 2015.

Gorero said that of the 34,057 recorded cases, 24,503 are classified as non-index crimes, while 9,554 were classified as index crimes or crimes committed against persons and properties.

According to nscb.gov.ph, Index crimes are crimes sufficiently significant including murder, physical injury, robbery, theft, and rape while non-index are all types of crimes not considered index.

These 34,057 cases were distributed in different provinces in the region and they are the Aklan Police Provincial Office with 6,442 cases, Antique Police Provincial Office with 2,650, Capiz Police Provincial Office with 5,007, Guimaras Police Provincial Office with 1,390, Iloilo Police Provincial Office with 9,109, and Iloilo City Police Office with 9,459 cases.

Of the 41, 097 cases recorded in the same period last year, 13,085 were index crime and 14,644 were non-index crime and they were distributed in Aklan with 7,716, Antique with 2,600, Capiz with 7,104, Guimaras with 1,612, Iloilo province with 11,408 and Iloilo City with 10,657 cases.

Statistics shows that index crimes decreased from 13,085 recorded last year to 9,554 or 26.96 percent of the same period of this year.

The region’s Crime Solution Efficiency increases by 59.76 percent compared to 51.96 percent last year while Crime Clearance Efficiency also increases by 61.28 percent compared to last year’s 53.39 percent.
