THE Liloan Municipal Council passed a resolution declaring Ryan Villaflores persona non grata for calling local residents several derogatory names like “mga kagwang,” “idiots,” and “buang.” He also called the town the new Sodom and Gomorrah.
Villaflores, a resident of Amara Subdivision in Barangay Catarman, immediately issued an apology.
Villaflores had complained that his mother, who is on the final stages of chemotherapy, could not sleep because of the revelry outside the subdivision when the town celebrated its annual fiesta.
The incident prompted him to vent his anger on the social network site Facebook.
“And in midnights especially after 12am, when we need to sleep, the noise from all over gets unbearable for us. But I should realize that I am not the only one having problems,” read Villaflores’s statement on Facebook.
He said he realized that the town has been celebrating fiestas long before they moved in two years ago and as a newcomer, he should have respected that.
According to the resolution, the town could not just ignore Villaflores’s “insulting words” as these “subjected the Municipality of Liloan and all Liloanons to public ridicule, humiliation, degradation, and embarrassment.”
Vice Mayor Duke Frasco, in a press statement, said the action of Villaflores, who is the chief marketing officer of Taft Development Group, warranted action because the latter intentionally condemned and degraded Liloan and its people.
As for Villaflores’s apology, he only issued it when the town resolution was passed on first reading, Frasco said.
“Now it’s really up to the people of Liloan, whether they would be convinced by the sincerity of his apology,” he said.
He said the mandate of Liloan officials is to protect and defend their town and its people.
