Power Coop to offer free installation

FOLLOWING the initiative of extending its service to the different corners of the province, Benguet Electric Cooperative (Beneco) will be offering free installation of lines going to households.

The electric cooperative is handing out free service and free processing of application papers through the National Intensification Household Electrification (NIHE) project subsidized by the national government according to Beneco executive servicer officer Merlie Landocan.

"This project will free installation of service lines going into local households in Benguet. The plan is to ensure everyone will have their own power lines as long as they have an existing Beneco post near them," Landocan said.

Landocan explained the free installation will only cover costs of wiring, electric meters, and the processing fee which costs P3,750.

However the application from the local government units will still be shouldered by the consumers prior to the installation of their power lines.

Landocan mentioned the NIHE project will be catering to all applicants.

"This is not only for those who cannot avail of the charges particularly the 4P's but also those ordinary residents," she added.

At present Beneco is conducting communications with all the municipalities of Benguet which include the lowering or waiving of the application requirements.

Landocan said three Benguet municipalities have already given positive response to the upcoming project including Bokod, Itogon, and Kabayan.

She said in Kabayan, minimal application requirements will be processed at the municipal office, while Bokod and Itogon agreed to lower the requirements to presentation of tax declaration and barangay certificates accordingly.

The project which will run until 2017 is expected to be launched on October.

"We are just setting up para mas mabilis ang execution natin and mas marami tayong makabitan ng power lines. One of the preparations are mag-ready na ng mga electric meters in the household so when the go signal is been given, yung connection from post to houses na lang ang ilalagay," Landocan explained.

"This includes the whole of Benguet, including Baguio City and the capital town La Trinidad. People will just have to wait for the advisory in their areas," she added.

Meanwhile, Beneco general manager Gerardo Versoza said the cooperative is targeting 100 percent electrification for all of the residents of the province.

"This will be fully implemented that is why we are trying to fast track even the Sitio Electrification Program (SEP) so our lines can really reach the farthest areas we can," Versoza said.

"We do not want people saying we are unfair kasi kung may access naman sila to have power connections for their households then they should avail of the benefit," he added.
