Beauty, bounty showcased in Kadayawan fluvial parade

A PICTURE of beauty and bounty graced the Davao River and Tionko Football Field on Friday, August 19, as the city's 11 tribes once again paraded their culture and uniqueness through the Subang Sinugdanan (literally meaning, the river where it all started).

The Subang Sinugdanan or the Fluvial Float parade marks the Indigenous People's Day event of the Kadayawan Festival.

The colorful boats, which are uniquely different from each other, kicked off the parade at the Madapo Hills going to Tionko field along Quimp Boulevard for the Panagtagbo ceremony.

As per advice of Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte, this year's Kadayawan Festival was indeed taken over by the 11 tribes.

The Deputy Mayors along with their representatives for the Hiyas sa Kadayawan event starred the boats while they dance to the beat of their traditional music.

At the Tionko field, where the tribes met and shared their respective delicacies, unity was apparent. Not only were they united despite differnces in their cultures but religions as well.

Art Boncato, co-chair for the Kadayawan Festival, was thankful for the success of the event.

While Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio failed to join in the festivity due to her sensitive condition being seven-week pregnant with triplets, Boncato recognized her contribution for the success of the event. (CCC)
