Minglanilla warns of heavy traffic

COMMUTERS and motorists coming to and from Cebu south are advised to brace for heavy traffic in Minglanilla, as the town celebrates its fiesta in honor of the Queenship of Mary today.

Minglanilla Mayor Elanito Peña told Sun.Star Cebu that starting yesterday the municipality implemented various schemes to ensure that traffic will not be grueling for those going to and from the town during the celebration.

Peña said that at least 30 enforcers of the Minglanilla Traffic Commission (Mitcom) have been deployed to manage the traffic.

Aside from Mitcom personnel, barangay tanods from 10 villages and the town’s local police will also be helping traffic enforcers.

Should heavy traffic occur, Peña said he tasked Mitcom to prepare a rerouting plan and identify alternative routes.

Cebu City-bound vehicles can pass through an access road toward Barangay Tungkop from the national highway and exit toward Barangay Cansojong.

For vehicles going to southern Cebu, the town is also looking for ways to reroute vehicles.

Traffic advisory and signage have been set up in town’s strategic areas.

Town administrator Concordio Mejias told reporters that nightly activities have been lined up for the celebration since Aug. 12.

Nightly activities include talent shows presented by the town’s various sectors and educational establishments; Beautiful Married Woman, a pageant for married women; and a concert with Manila-based celebrities.
