DTI to establish ‘Pasalubong Center’

DEPARTMENT of Trade and Industry - Cordillera regional director Myrna Pablo wants to set up a pasalubong center for the city.

Pablo said the city has survived all these years without a legitimate center to showcase products not only from Baguio but for the entire region, despite the city known to be the melting pot of people and products.

"We need a one stop shop for products for people to come to and shop," Pablo said adding tourists are left to go the market or the malls to buy souvenir items to bring home.

Pablo added the DTI has partnered with Mayor Mauricio Domogan for the project which is already in the bidding process.

The DTI regional director added the shop will help put into place the tourism industry of the city.

"It will be part of each tourist's itinerary when they visit," Pablo added.

Pablo said the project is a rebranding of the department's One Town One Product program which champions the best of the best product of each area with

According to Pablo, the center has already an area identified by the local government unit and will be aided by the DTI in the eventual set up.

Pablo said the weaving industry of the various regions as well as the wood carving of each area can be displayed in the center saying the weaving industry of the region which is part of the heritage should be sustained."
