BI files criminal raps vs 25 foreigners in Boracay

CHARGES of violating the Philippine Immigration Act for posing risk to public interest have been filed by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) against 25 foreigners allegedly involved in drug and cybercrime operations in the country.

The 25 were arrested by authorities in Boracay last Monday.

BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said foreigner nationals composed of 18 Taiwanese and seven Chinese nationals were charged for being undesirable aliens and are now set to undergo deportation proceedings.

However, the BI chief noted that despite the deportation charges, the aliens will not be deported yet pending resolution of the criminal cases that were filed against them before the court.

“It is only after they have served their sentences, if convicted, that we will deport and include them in our blacklist to prevent them from re-entering our country,” he explained.

The police earlier said that the two-story house rented by the suspects served as a distribution point for illegal drugs and a base for their online fraud operation that has victimized many of their fellow citizens in Taiwan and China. (FP/Sunnex)
