SLU is top mining engineering school nationwide

SAINT Louis University(SLU) scored an 80 percent passing rate and become the top mining engineering school during the August 2016 Mining Engineer licensure examination conducted by the Professional Regulation Commission.

Forty-eight out of the 60 examinees of SLU passed the board exam for an 80 percent passing rate. A total of 211 out of 259 examinees nationwide passed the licensure examination given by the Board of Mining Engineering in Manila, Baguio, Cebu and Legaspi earlier this month.

The PRC announced starting August 18, 2016, registration for the issuance of Professional Identification Card and Certificate of Registration will be done on-line. Board passers are advised to visit www.prc.gov.ph and follow instructions for initial registration.

Successful examinees should personally register and sign in the Roster of Registered Professionals. They are required to bring duly accomplished Oath Form or Panunumpa ng Propesyonal, two pieces passport size picture (colored with white background and complete name tag) and 2 sets of documentary stamps.

Meanwhile, SLU Engineering Department Head, Engr. Romeo Santos assured said their new mining engineers will practice responsible and sustainable mining.

Santos said the university taught and equipped their students with the right knowledge and understanding of the mining industry giving importance to the environmental aspect of mining adding responsible mining is part of their curriculum.

Santos added they believe and support the advocacy being pushed by President Rodrigo Duterte and Environment Secretary Gina Lopez in making sure that mining companies are practicing responsible and sustainable mining in the country.

The SLU official is positive that despite the closure of several mining companies due to lapses on the effect of environment, mining will not be eradicated but would shape up to become a better industry. (Redjie Melvic Cawis/PIA-CAR)
