NOT TO be left behind, Baguio City will hold a Pokemon Go tournament as part of the city’s 107th Charter anniversary on September 1.
“This tournament will be a complementary activity for the chalk art competition na lagi nating ginagawa kapag Baguio Day. It will be an opportunity for interaction among the youth since the whole Session Road on September 1 will feature family oriented activities,” councilor Elmer Datuin told Sun.Star Baguio who also chairs the Committee on Tourism, Special Events Parks and Playgrounds.
Several incidents of theft and accidents have been reported in Metro Manila because of the free-to-play, location-based augmented reality game, but Datuin assured they have already laid out safety measures during the event.
“Ako naman is it’s the in thing at the moment as far as I’m concerned it encourages social interaction especially among the youth. I like that Pokemon Go be part of our activity during the Baguio Day, anyway Session Road is closed there are no vehicles to pass during that day,” Datuin stated.
Datuin said the safety of players will be prioritized during the day as they will deploy police personnel and possibly remove barricades along the session road.
“The activity is sponsored by telcos and it will be fun for everybody so bakit hindi natin gawin,” Datuin narrated.
Datuin assured police personnel will be deployed from upper to lower Session Road to prevent theft.
“Pokemon Go players are going to Burnham Park because may lure party daw doon. We can duplicate that in Session Road, anyway may Pokemon stop yata lahat in the whole stretch of Session Road, it will be a good opportunity for the city to invite more people to join the Baguio Day festivities,” Datuin said.
Prices await the winners of the event according to Datuin adding they are still finalizing the rules of the game.
