Minor dies in fist fight; 2 killed in road accident

A MINOR died after a fistfight, while two persons died in a road accident along Halsema Highway in separate occasions this week.

Senior Police Officer 1 Clifford Valdez and Dr. Estelita Valdez Sanchez died after their car fell off a 100-meter ravine in Kilometer 30, Caliking, Atok, Benguet, Friday morning.

According to police report, the fatalities together with Bradley Valdez, who survived the accident, was on their way to Baguio City after attending a wake the night before in the nearby town of Buguias.

The report added the police officer was driving the vehicle and momentarily slept while holding on to the wheel, causing the car to swerve off the road and fell down the ravine.

Meanwhile, in Baguio City, a 14–year–old died shortly after he was rushed to a hospital for losing his consciousness while engaging in a fistfight with one of his friends.

Authorities disclosed the victim allegedly provoked one of his friends into a fistfight when they had heated argument while playing billiards.

The 14-year-old suspect then accepted the challenge and beat the victim.

After allegedly receiving multiple body punches, the victim lose consciousness but his friends let him lay down on the floor for almost 30 minutes before a barangay official rushed the boy to the hospital.

Police reports revealed both victim and suspect were students of Alternative Learning System and were both allegedly drank during the incident.

The body of the victim will now be taken home to his hometown in Ilocos Sur while the suspect is now under the custody of the Social Development Center.

Meanwhile, Happy Homes barangay captain Florentino Awingan told Sun.Star Baguio both parties are willing to settle amicably.

“Since minor sila pareho, we have asked both parties kung ano ang dapat nating gawin. The parents of the suspect were willing to talk to the victim’s parents naman and then the other side sabi nila ay maghihintay naman daw sila. Hindi naman kagustuhan ng kahit na sino ang mga nangyari,” Awingan stated.
