NegOcc MSMEs urged to attend green economic dev’t gab

THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is urging micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Negros Occidental to attend in the in-phasing event and technical sessions on “Green Economic Development” in Iloilo City on September 6 to 7.

Engiemar Tupas, senior trade and industry development specialist of DTI-Negros Occidental, said the promotion on green economic development (ProGED) in-phasing event is initiated by DTI-Region 6 in collaboration with the German International Cooperation (GIZ).

Tupas said the activity aims to present the initiatives and achievements of the agency in promoting GED and recognize green champions who supported DTI in its promotion.

It will also serve as venue to inspire other MSMEs to go green through testimonies and get commitments of other agencies and organizations to pursue that green ways of economic development, he added.

“Negrense MSMES are urged to participate so that they could have an idea on how to green their operation which would eventually reduce their operation expenses while helping in the conservation of the environment,” Tupas said.

The activity is free for all interested enterprises.

On top of sessions, the two-day event will also include an exhibit showcasing the green products of green practitioners and establishments in Western Visayas.

In Negros Occidental, GIZ is one of the consistent partners of DTI along with the Negros Economic Development Foundation Inc. (NEDF) in implementing various ProGED initiatives.

One of which was the multi-sectoral forum held at Planta Hotel in Bacolod City last August 17 participated by more than 100 member-representatives from different sectors in the province.
