Village leader shot dead in Davao

A VILLAGE leader was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Barangay Communal in Buhangin District in Davao City on Sunday evening, August 28.

Police identified the victim as Raul Gálvez Calatrava, 52, a leader at Purok 1 in Communal.

Initial investigation conducted by Buhangin police showed the incident happened around 8:30 p.m. while the victim was attending to his sari-sari store.

According to witnesses, two unidentified men on board a red Honda Wave motorcycle arrived in the area.

One of the two suspects alighted from the motorcycle and shot the victim once through the window.

Calatrava was again shot several times by the suspect inside the store.

The two suspects then fled to unknown direction, while the victim succumbed to gunshot wounds in his head and different parts of the body.

Recovered from the crime scene was one fired cartridge from undetermined firearm.

The evidence is now under the custody of the Scene of the Crime Operatives for ballistic test.

The body of the victim was brought to St. Peter Funeral Homes, while the police are already looking for the suspects.

The two suspects were both described wearing helmets, and are 5 feet tall and 5 feet 4 inches tall, respectively.

Police are also tracking the background of the victim to determine the motive of the crime.
