Valley seeks Hedcor help

MEASURES to stay safe during the rainy season are being done in the Valley.

The Municipal Council of La Trinidad is looking to pass a resolution for tunneling of a mountain area in Kesbeng, Poblacion to be used as a passageway for excess water during rainy season.

Councilor Nestor Fongwan Jr., is asking for help from Hedcor Inc. to study the possibility of conducting a research for the creation of a water channel in one of the riverside mountains of Kesbeng.

In his resolution, Fongwan said the LGU has no capability to conduct the study.

“Walang technical capacity ang municipality for this kind of project. Hedcor can do, that is why we are trying to reach out to the company,” Fongwan added.

The Valley is acting as a catch basin of excess water from the neighboring City of Baguio during rainy season and the need for such channel is needed to divert water going down to La Trinidad.

Balili River and Bolo Creek are the most affected areas during the rainy season causing flooding to Balili, Pico, Betag, Poblacion, and Puguis.

“They can create the tunnel to power their existing turbines in Barangay Bineng,” Fongwan explained.

In 2015, during the onslaught of Typhoon Lando, flashfloods following the sudden surge of water level in water ways were experienced in the different villages of the Valley.
