Banned items seized inside Davao jail

AUTHORITIES, on Thursday, seized drug paraphernalia, improvised sharp items, pornographic materials, and cash amounting to P124,000 inside the detention cells during a surprise raid dubbed as "Oplan Greyhound" at the Davao City Jail in Barangay Ma-a.

Joint personnel of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), Davao City Police Office (DCPO), K9-Unit, and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) launched the "Oplan Greyhound," Thursday morning.

Jail Senior Inspector Robert Gotico, newly-installed deputy jail warden at the Davao City Jail, said they conducted the surprise raid to ensure that no illegal transactions are being conducted among detainees inside the detention facility.

This is in connection with the intensified campaign of the Duterte administration against illegal drugs.

"Gipaneguro nato nga walay ilegal drugs sa sulod, ang misugat nato during sa Oplan Greyhound mao ning mga butang nga gidili (We want to make sure that there is no drugs inside the city jail. These items we confiscated today are those prohibited items)," Gotico told SunStar SuperBalita Davao in an interview on Thursday.

Gotico said they will turn over the confiscated money to the respective families of the detainees.

The Oplan Greyhound is a regular operation conducted by law enforcement agencies to make sure that rules and regulations inside the detention cells are followed and observed, especially the illegal drugs.
