Cebu inmates surrender 184 cellphones

THE Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) inmates voluntarily surrendered 184 cellphones to avoid losing their visitation benefits.

The move came as Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III ordered the resumption of the inmates' visit on September 5, but there will be no more physical contacts except for legally married couples.

Visitation privileges were suspended last August 9 after the escape of inmate Arnel Mait.

Acting CPDRC warden Bobby Legaspi, who presented the cellphones Friday, September 2, with Senior Inspector Zocimo Jabas of the Provincial Public Safety Company, said they confiscated 50 other cellphones before the voluntary surrender of the 184 phones.

Legaspi believed that more cellphones are still inside the detention facility. (OCP/SunStar Cebu)
