Squatting hampers building of Baguio City rehab center

FOUR illegally built structures within the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) has delayed the planned construction of a rehabilitation center in the city.

“I was told by BGHMC chief Dr. Emmanuel Acluba na mayroon ng allotted budget para sa construction ang problema lang mayroong apat na nagsquat doon sa site na inidentify for the rehabilitation center,” Mayor Maurcio Domogan said.

Domogan hopes the issue would be resolved soon so that the construction will continue.

“We hope na sana maayos iyong problema at umalis na sila doon so they can immediately construct the rehabilitation center. We only have few rehabilitation centers all over the country and it is important that we should cooperate to construct one,” Domogan added.

The drug rehabilitation center is expected to cater to the more than 800 surrenderees .

“It is important na sana makapagpatayo na tayo ng rehab center because again they cannot have a livelihood or hindi sila mae-employ if they are not changed and reformed. So the first thing that we should do is to rehabilitate those who needs rehab para makamove forward na sila kapag nareform na sila,” Domogan explained.

In the past, the city has been proposing for the construction of a rehabilitation center at the 5,000 square meter area at Balenben in Irisan.

“During the time of General Galvante, we requested PDEA if they have fund for the construction of the rehabilitation center. We will provide the area but they will fund the construction,” Domogan said.

Due to increasing number of surrenderees, the national government has seen several military camps to be rehabilitation centers in the country.
