Davao City to open bank account for donations

THE Davao City Government is set to open a bank account on Monday, September 5, to allow citizens to deposit their donations for the victims of the Davao night market bombing.

Lawyer Raul Nadela, Chief of Staff of Mayor Inday Sara Duterte, in a media interview on, Sunday said there is an insistent public demand and so they are opening a separate bank account in LandBank for those who want to donate and help the families of the casualties of the Friday night attack.

Nadela said that they saw the need to open bank account to cater to donors, who they previously advised to give their donations directly to the families of the victims.

Nadela said that as of the moment, the City Government is addressing needs of the victims through point persons designated in hospitals and funeral parlors.

Nadela added that they are making sure needs for medicine are addressed and food packs are also delivered.

"We want financial support to be the last thing on their minds," Nadela said.

Nadela also added that a separate financial aid will soon be given by the city government upon the signal of the City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

Nadela is thankful that many members of private sector have shown willingness to donate.

As of Sunday afternoon, he had assisted Philippine Chinese Davao Chamber to give out their financial aid to the victims.

Nadela said that as of Sunday they have listed 14 people killed in the blast while 70 were wounded.

Among those deaths confirmed in their list were Jay Adremesin, Maria Luz Arellano, Mercy Basilisco, Rogelio Cagantas, Cristelle Decolongon, Daniel Larida, Melanie Faith Larida, Pipalawan Macacua, Eufemia Biscocho, Kristia Gaile Bisnon, Ruth Merecido, Salvador ReginaldoNagal, Christian Denver Reyes, and Evelyn Sobrecarey.

Based on the data provided by the City Information Office, 70 patients are at different at Brokenshire Hospital, Davao Doctors Hospital, Richard Limso Hospital, Southern Philippines Medical Center, Davao Medical School Foundation Hospital, and San Pedro Hospital.

There are also four patients who died in a hospital with a total of 74 patients.

Of the number, 54 of the injured patients were identified residents of Davao City, while 12 were from outside Davao City.

Ten victims died on the spot.

Nadela said that many also have asked for assistance for burial clothes of the deceased while some only asked for the cash, especially the family of the Maranao victim.

Nadela said that two patients at San Pedro Hospital and many patients at Southern Philippines Medical Center are still critical as of Sunday.
