Woman, pregnant, falls on 60-foot ravine

A PREGNANT woman was rescued after she jumped into a 60-ft. ravine in Barangay Maghaway, Talisay City last Saturday night.

Maghaway Councilor Ricky Luza identified the woman as Michelle (full name withheld), his neighbor in Phase 2, St. Arnold Janssen Village.

When asked if the 23-year-old woman attempted suicide, the barangay official couldn’t say if she wanted to take her own life.

“Mga pangos-pangos ra man ang iyang naangkon (She only had bruises),” said Luza in a phone interview.

Sun.Star Cebu called Talisay City police and fire stations, but they did not have a report about the incident and update on the condition of Michelle. She is five months pregnant.

Initial investigation showed the woman was reportedly having a fight with her husband, before she allegedly jumped around 9 p.m.

Luza said Michelle possibly jumped from the edge of the ravine to escape her husband. She eventually slid and rolled down to the bottom.

The village official then called the city’s rescue team and lifted the woman around 10 p.m. She was then rushed to the Talisay City District Hospital.

She went home around 1 a.m., after the doctor who checked on her saw no major injuries in her body.

Luza said the baby in Michelle’s womb was not affected, but the mother of two was advised to undergo ultrasound.

The husband, a laborer, will be summoned to the barangay today for an inquiry about what transpired before Michelle’s jump.
