Riding-in-tandem gunmen kill cop in Lamitan City

MOTORCYCLE-RIDING gunmen shot and killed a policeman during a fire incident in Lamitan City, Basilan province, the police reported Monday.

Chief Inspector Mohammad Abdulhalim, newly-appointed Lamitan City police chief, identified the slain policeman as Police Officer 1 (PO1) Basir Sangcopan, a resident of Maluso, Basilan.

Abdulhalim said Sangcopan was shot and killed around 6:30 p.m., Sunday, in the village of Limook, Lamitan City.

The slain policeman is assigned as an investigator at the Lamitan City Police Office.

Abdulhalim said that prior to the incident Sangcopan was pre-occupied in retrieving his belongings as the victim’s house caught fire.

Abdulhalim said that suddenly motorcycle-riding gunmen arrived and repeatedly shot Sangcopan with the use of M-16 Armalite rifle and sped off.

Abdulhalim said that all possible motives are being looked into as investigation continues in a bid to unmask the suspects and arrest them.
