Investors to jumpstart BLISTT development

DOMESTIC and foreign investors are being eyed to jumpstart the proposed creation of the Baguio-La Trinidad-Itogon-Sablan-Tuba-Tublay (BLISTT) in the province of Benguet.

Department of Tourism (DOT)-Cordillera director Marie Venus Tan said the enticement of a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) will be the key to develop the neighboring municipalities into a more striking destination in the next few years.

“DOT-CAR is in favor for the creation of BLISTT. As our share to the proposed plan is that our department has been gradually looking into areas outside the city which investors may be interested with,” Tan told Sun.Star Baguio.

Tan said DOT-CAR has been seeking possible shareholders, which will help in developing the environs of BLISTT particularly the smaller towns outside Baguio City.

“Other members of this BLISTT have huge potentials of boosting not only the tourism but also the economy of the region that is why we want to market a lot of them for possible partnerships,” she added.

The DOT official also mentioned the promotion is part of the department’s Rev-Bloom Project, where DOT-CAR aims to revitalize and rejuvenate Baguio and Benguet and improving its states into a Mountain Resort of the North.

Tan added the need to develop the tourism factor of the outskirts of the Baguio will be carried out in order to distribute the share of the annual visitors in the Summer Capital.

“There are lots of places here where we can widen the market value not only of Baguio but Benguet in particular,” said Tan adding the mountainous terrain of the outskirts of the city is already eyed to become eco-tourism sites.

Despite the planned PPP expansions, Tan said DOT-CAR will remain to withhold the Rev-Bloom concept of caring for the natural environment while sustaining growth and improvement of all the municipalities of the province.
