Tabunok market works to start

THE construction of the first phase of the new Tabunok Public Market will start on Thursday, said Talisay City Mayor Eduardo Gullas.

Gullas made the announcement after receiving from the city’s Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) that Tiamzon Construction has formally won the bidding for the construction of the new market.

In a press conference, Gullas told reporters that after the groundbreaking of the new market on Thursday, the winning contractor will conduct demolition on two city-owned buildings situated in the public market.

Demolition

The two buildings are supposed to be rented for commercial use, but have to be demolished to make way for the construction of new commercial spaces.

Gullas said that the City had advised establishments renting spaces there to get a temporarily relocation.

He also clarified that no vendor will be displaced during the construction period.

Gullas said the City Engineer’s Office and the market administrator had already consulted the vendors’ association.

Gullas also plans to coordinate with the City of Talisay Traffic Operation Development Authority (CT-TODA) to organize traffic schemes in the Tabunok area once the construction of the building starts.

But he assures that they will not allow the contractor to conduct works during the peak traffic hours.

Schedule

Engr. Gamaliel Vicente, Talisay City engineer, told reporters that the construction of the new market’s first phase will be done within nine months or 270 working days.

The construction of the first phase of the new market is worth P52 million.

Even though only the two commercial buildings are being focused on in the first phase, it will depend on Gullas if he will insert the construction of drainage and sewage treatment facilities with it, Vicente said.

The second phase, worth P98 million, will be initiated by October next year.
