THREE men who were allegedly about to conduct illegal drug transactions inside a motel were caught in a buy-bust operation in Lapu-Lapu City last night.
The Lapu-Lapu City Intelligence Branch (CIB) seized about P212,000 worth of illegal drugs from the suspects, all of them residents of the neighboring town of Cordova.
Before the arrest, a police decoy bought a sachet of shabu from the suspects for P1,500.
After the police buyer gave the signal, a team led by Senior Insp. Joey Bicoy, deputy chief of the CIB, immediately got inside the room and arrested the three men.
The CIB identified the men arrested in Barangay Pajo past 9 last night as Romeo “Jay-R” Amistad and his alleged cohorts Valeriano Degamo, 47, and Elmer Tagsip, 44.
Bicoy said that the police still have to check if Amistad was on the drug watch list because he and the two other suspects were not from Lapu-Lapu.
Amistad, 29, and Degamo both resided in Barangay Poblacion, Cordova. Tagsip hails from Barangay Gabi in the same town.
Bicoy said that Amistad can dispose of several grams of shabu through Tagsip and Degamo.
He said that the police had received information that the group did business inside the motel.
According to him, Amistad’s area of operation was in Cordova.
Authorities confiscated four sachets and two medium packs of what appeared to be shabu, the P1,500 cash used as the buy-bust money, and an additional P1,510 cash from the suspects.
Police also got a .357 revolver with five live ammunitions from Amistad.
In an interview, Amistad said he was new to the illegal drug activity. He worked as a tourist bus driver before.
Bicoy said that the police will verify if Amistad was part of the Amistad drug group in the city.
“Karon sige atong operation nagkalisod ilang style sa modus (Now that we have intensified our campaign against illegal drugs, their modus operandi have also become more complicated),” he added.
