Japan donates 2 warships to Philippines

JAPAN has donated two Frigates, a type of warship, to the Philippines, in a bid to bolster the bilateral relations between the two countries, a Palace official said on Wednesday.

“Japan donated to our country two Frigates,” Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said in a press conference in Vientiane, Laos.

One of the two Frigates, Andanar said, was being delivered to the Philippines.

Andanar issued the statement after President Rodrigo Duterte and Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe met on Tuesday at the National Convention Center in Vientiane for a bilateral meet.

At the meeting, Abe said he looked forward for further cooperation with the Philippines, noting that this year marks the 60th anniversary of the normalization of the diplomatic relationship between the two countries.

“Under our close partnership, I do look forward to further developing our cooperation in a wide range of areas together with you,” Abe said.

For his part, Duterte said he was optimistic that the good bilateral relations between the Philippines and Japan would be sustained under his term. (Sunnex)
