CHINA has brought in some materials to Camp Fort Ramon Magsaysay in Palayan, Nueva Ecija for the construction of rehabilitation center, President Rodrigo Duterte said on Monday.
Speaking before the Filipino community in Jakarta, Indonesia, the President said China had fulfilled its promise to provide assistance to the Philippines to build rehabilitation centers to complement his ongoing fight against illegal drugs.
“China offered to help and build a rehab. I think they started on Magsaysay. They’re bringing the materials there already. It’s only China that is helping us,” Duterte said.
Duterte made the statement even after he dragged some Chinese nationals in the illicit drug operations in several parts of the country. In August, Duterte had released a matrix, involving three alleged top-tier drug syndicates.
But Chinese government, Duterte said, is willing to cooperate with his administration to suppress drugs in the country.
Nearly 700,000 drug dependents have already surrendered to the authorities after the President waged his staunch war against drugs.
The government, however, could not address the needs of all drug peddlers who submitted themselves to the police due to lack of rehabilitation centers.
Duterte admitted that there was no sufficient budget to build more rehabilitation centers for drug dependents.
"My budget [for this year] does not include treatment or rehabilitation or structures for the 3.7 million [drug addicts]. I cannot add any budget," the President said. (Sunnex)
