6 CCTV video footages of Davao bombing studied

AUTHORITIES are reviewing six closed circuit television (CCTV) footages that would possibly reveal the identities of the perpetrators of the Davao night market bombing on September 2 that left 14 people dead and 70 others injured.

Police Regional Office (PRO)-Davao Deputy Regional Director for operation Senior Superintendent Valenciano De Leon said the six CCTV footages were secured at the blast site and were vital in the ongoing investigation.

"We have six footages being reviewed. Iba pa yong galing sa 911 at iba pa yong upcoming from the nearby establishments kasi meron kaming areas of interest," De Leon told reporters during the press conference at the Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSCC) on Friday, September 9.

De Leon, who is also the commander of the Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) Roxas night market, said they are also looking into the areas of interest where the suspects possibly gathered before the attack.

There was a possibility that the clothes of the suspects might be seen in one of the CCTVs they secured and from those they have yet to gather.

"Baka makita natin yong damit naisinuot niya nong nagpamasahe ang ating prime suspect. Baka walang mask kasi mahirap uminom ng kape na may takip dito," de Leon added.

Authorities earlier this week released the cartographic sketch of one of the suspects. But they had a hard time identifying the suspect since he is wearing a mask.

De Leon said they were also eyeing a possibility that the suspect had an accomplice based on initial reports.

"Parang may participation on the lower degree like tips whether pwede na bang ilagay, o kaya kung hindi siya, ‘yong prime suspect ang nagpindot ng triggering device," De Leon said.

De Leon, however, said the challenge now for the investigating team is how they can integrate the evidences and evaluate these evidences whether they are connected or not.

The improvised explosive devised was composed of two container mortars 60mm and 81mm tied together, designed to create a maximum casualty based on the fragments they have collected.

De Leon did not reveal whether they have the identity of the suspect in the cartographic sketch.

"We have yet to confirm the identity then. We have yet to really ascertain to the maximum of certainty his identity," he said.

The Philippine National Police and the Armed forces of the Philippines also gathered Friday to coordinate their plans on the ongoing investigation and for the city's security plans.

All the concerned agencies and offices were invited by the PSSCC to remind them about their functions and roles in safekeeping the city from terrorist attacks. (JCR)
