VICE President Leni Robredo said Thursday that the allegations raised by Senate witness Edgar Matobato during an inquiry into the extrajudicial killings in the country on Thursday are "serious."
Matobato was presented as witness by the Senate committee on justice chaired by Senator Leila de Lima. The investigation focused on his participation in the vigilante group called Davao Death Squad.
Robredo said that all efforts must be exhausted to get to the truth, with due regard for democratic processes and the rule of law.
"I enjoin the public to remain vigilant and discerning as the investigation unfolds," she said.
Robredo also took offense at Senator Alan Peter Cayetano's accusation that the Liberal Party is plotting to oust the President.
"As I have reiterated time and again, it is not good for the country to go through another period of upheaval, where the common Filipino will suffer the most," she said.
In Wednesday's Cabinet meeting, Robredo said she personally made the assurance that no such plan exists and that she continues to support the reforms of the Duterte administration. (Sunnex)
