First aid in your phone

LAST April, the Philippine Red Cross launched a mobile app to help everyone with basic first aid for different cases. Admittedly, I only downloaded it to my phone recently after the unfortunate incident here in Davao City early this month. It’s available both for Android devices and iOS devices.

It’s an initiative to provide instant access "to pertinent needed to handle common first aid emergencies. It also provides simple step-by-step instructions to guide you through everyday first aid scenarios.” It’s a great move from Red Cross if you ask me. I’ve always believed since my days as a Boy Scout that everyone should know basic first aid. We can never know when we can be of service and when we can save a life.

After installing it on your device and launching the app, you’ll be taken straight the Emergency tab. You’ll find there a list of common emergency scenarios that you’ll most likely encounter on a day-to-day basis.

Another feature I like in the app is the Prepare tab.

I also like the Tests part. It’s a short quiz on different incidents/cases to test your first aid knowledge. Hopefully, the developers can hook this portion to an online database so the quizzes can change every now and then without having to update the app itself. It’s a good way of keeping oneself updated.

All in all, it’s a good app to keep on your device with you. It may not always be used but it would be a good thing to have. Emergencies are things that we can never predict to happen. If it happens, it happens. The question then is how much we’re actually prepared to handle it and how much we can be of help.
