THE winning streak goes on for Team Lakay after Jeybee Ban-eg edged his rival in a regional semi professional mixed martial arts promotion, September 10.
Team Lakay head coach Mark Sangaio told Sun*Star Baguio newcomer Jaybee Ban-eg was able to keep the team's winning streak after a unanimous decision victory over Joemy Miado in the co-main event of Pacific Xtreme Combat (PXC) Laban MMA at The Tent Avenue in Naga City, Camarines Sur.
Ban-eg, an experienced kickboxer has joined the roster of Team Lakay sometime 2015 after separating ways with Universal Martial Arts club based in Baguio City.
"He was able to use his new found wrestling and ground game to subdue the taller Miado throughout their three-round encounter," Sangiao said.
Ban-eg was evidently the more aggressive fighter pressing the hometown hero against the cage and holding a lay-and-pray technique most of the encounter to earn the judges nod.
Although the Cordilleran was able to land solid punches to Miado's head in the first and second canto, the later held his own with Muay Thai kicks but was not enough to outpoint Ban-eg.
Ban-eg, a native of Sabangan, Mountain Province improved his record to three wins and a one defeat.
Ban-eg's lone defeat came in the hands of fellow Mt. Province native Franklin Donglay in his Laban MMA Baguio debut.
After the loss to Donglay, Ban-eg was able to rack up back to back victories against Sylvester Banguigui during the PXC Laban MMA Baguio 2 held in July last year and Ariel Lampacan during the Team Lakay Championships held earlier this year.
"There was pressure coming into the fight after Team Lakay recently struck a string of victories in different MMA promotions," Ban-eg said.
Ban-eg said he hopes to follow in the footsteps of his teammates in the bigger leagues following his success in the non-professional ground.
Laban MMA is the Philippine amateur circuit of Guam-based Pacific Xtreme Combat, one of the leading MMA promotions in Asia Pacific.
