Tribal Clan, RTU tops Baguio arnis tilt

TRIBAL Clan Martial Arts System of Baguio City garnered seven gold, one silver and one bronze to secure the overall championship in the 107th Baguio Day Charter National Arnis Championships 2016 joined by 21 schools and clubs from Luzon.

The group hauled two gold medals through the efforts of juniors Keri Ervince Kozeij in double identical weapons together with Alendria Dumanas in the single weapon girls and a silver by Gigie Anton in double identical weapon for girls in the anyo division.

In the labanan division, gold medals for Tribal clan continue to pile up courtesy of Ethan Jared Abaya in the +56kg junior boys novice category, Keri Ervince Kozeij in the +51-52kg junior boys category, Gigie Anton in the +51-52kg junior girls category, Alendria Dumanas in the +43-47kg junior girls category, and Bradley Donglay in the +55-60kg junior boys category.

Neon Sports from Isabela won four gold, one silver and eight bronze while the Polytechnic University of the Philippines in Sta. Mesa, Manila landed second with three gold, two silver and one bronze followed by Bataan National High School with two gold, four silver and four bronze.

Baguio’s Remnant finished with two gold, two silver and six bronze while Cagayan De Oro was came home with two gold medals.

In the senior’s category, Rizal Technological University bagged first place with nine gold, seven silvers and one bronze in the three day tournament held at the Baguio Convention Center from September 9-11.

Gold medallists from RTU include Rheymer Peralta in double identical weapon men’s anyo division and in the +51-55kg men’s advance labanan; Jervin Dagasuhan in the +55-60kg men’s advance; Kim Elvambuena in the +55-60kg women’s advance; Juhairah Harim in the +60-66kg women’s advance; JJ Malanay in the +73-81kg men’s advance with Franceska Roquero in the women’s advance; Mark Joseph Perez in the men’s 83kg and above together with Jolina De Guzman in the women’s.

Following RTU in second place is the Philippine Army from Manila with five gold, four silver and seven bronze while the Philippine Military Academy bagged third place with four gold, five silver and nine bronze.

Trailing at fourth place is PUP with two gold, three silver and five bronze while the Cordillera Administrative Region Training Center based here in the Summer Capital landed fifth with two gold, two silver and three bronze.

Tournament director Jayson Vicente said three special awards were given at the close of the three-day tournament. These are Huwarang Alagad ng Sining Pilipino which was accorded to Armando dela Peña from Isabela; Huwarang Batang Arnisador given to five-year-old Jeronne Abello from Iloilo; and, Huwarang Coach given to Luz Arroyo from Sta. Mesa, Manila.
