Teacher from Surigao nabbed with P1-M worth of 'shabu'

A FEMALE grade school teacher from Surigao City was nabbed in a joint entrapment operation by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Northern Mindanao and elements of Police Station 3 in Agora, Barangay Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro City, on Sunday evening, September 18.

Police identified the suspect as Jonet Argente who was arrested in front of the police station in Agora.

Chief Inspector Ariel Philip Pontillas, Police Station 3 chief, said Argente was transporting four large plastic bags said to be containing methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as "shabu," weighing around 300 grams and valued at about P1 million.

Pontillas said four cohorts of the suspect had earlier been arrested by PDEA-Northern Mindanao operatives.

Pontillas said the suspect, considered to be a "big time" drug personality in Surigao City, was said to have recently transferred her supposed illegal drugs operations here.

"Nisibat sila sa Surigao diri na sad ilang market sa CDO (Cagayan de Oro) Kay basin nagtuo sila nga dili higpit atong Intel diri," Pontillas said.

The police is also establishing the suspect's possible connection with Rayhana Batara who was arrested by CIDG-Caraga at the Agora bus terminal about a month ago.

Batara, a former municipal councilor of Pantar, Lanao del Norte, was carrying some P1.8 million worth of shabu at the time of his arrest on August 18.

"Dili pa nato ma estbalish pero isa ka bulan na pud nato nga namonitor after atong CIDG operation uban atong station," Pontillas.

Pontillas said the suspect will be facing charges on violation on the dangerous drugs act particularly on selling which is non-bailable.
