FOR three straight events, Team Lakay La Trinidad has dominated the staging of their locally organized grappler’s cup with the latest held Saturday, September 17 at the PFVR gymnasium.
Lakay La Trinidad garnered six gold, seven silver and seven bronze in the 26th staging of Team Lakay Grappler’s Cup to snatch the overall crown.
Gold medal haulers include Frennie Lyn Carantes and Erika Bomogao in the junior’s female category, Edilbert Coquia in the junior’s male category, Frennie Mae Carantes in the senior’s female category, Jhanlo Mark Sangiao in the kid’s male category and Jeremy Pacatiw in the absolute division.
Lakay Central Gym meanwhile bagged four gold, three silver and three bronze medals to place second over-all.
Leading the medal haulers for the Baguio based gym include Renz Odao in the kid’s male-A category, Gem Balay-odao in the Kid’s female category, Aldrin Taccayan in the 79kg+ junior’s division and Aldwin Nicdao in the 65kg+ senior’s female.
Team Lakay San Fernando Gym salvaged third place by grabbing two gold and one bronze.
Gold medalists are Taro Barrientos in the 57kg+ senior’s male and Daniel Gwon in the 72kg+ senior’s male.
Tribal Torogi secured the fourth spot with one gold, two silvers and three bronze. Torogi’s Gabriel Andres won the gold in the 50kg and below senior’s male category.
Meantime, Fight Corps MMA landed fifth with one gold and one silver courtesy of Dave Banguigui and Salvador Tanggacan both in the 51kg+ senior’s male category.
Special awards were given to Tarro Barrientos of Lakay San Fernando as best in submission technique (twister) and Islay Erika Bomogao of Lakay La Trinidad as fastest submission with a time record of 14 seconds via guillotine choke.
Team Lakay head coach Mark Sangiao said they are conducting the grappler's cup to improve the performance of local fighters while for scouting new talents.
