Lapu veterinary office sets medical mission, info drive

THE Lapu-Lapu City Veterinary Office announced the holding of a veterinary medical mission on Sept. 24 at the Lapu-Lapu City Sports Complex.

Dr. Janice Togonon, city veterinarian, said that free veterinary services have been lined up for the mission and pet owners will also have the chance to register all their fur buddies during the activity.

Free services include anti-rabies vaccination, free vitamin supplementation, deworming, and free castration and spay.

Togonon said that all pets should be registered as mandated under Republic Act 9482, or The Anti-Rabies Act of 2007. An information education drive about the law will also be held.

Togonon encouraged children, aged 7 to 10, to attend the information campaign for them to learn the effects of rabies, how to take care of their pets and their responsibilities to their pets.

The city veterinarian said that registration of pets, especially dogs, is important to easily determine their owners on instances that their pets are lost.

In 2015, there are more than 8,000 dogs registered by the city veterinary.

For 2016, the city veterinary so far registered 7,000 dogs.

At least 50 veterinarians volunteered to participate in the activity.

More than 500 pet owners have registered to join the veterinary medical mission.

This year’s Octoberpets has been organized in coordination with Philippine Veterinary Medical Association, Provincial Veterinary Office, Veterinarians from Central Visayas as well as those from Negros Island Region, Department of Agriculture 7, and students from Southwestern University.
