Golez up for WBC super flyweight title

TWENTY-NINE-year-old Roilo Golez of the Highland Boxing Stable in La Trinidad, Benguet is penciled for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Asia Continental super flyweight championship title slated October 1 at the Mall of Asia, Pasay City.

Golez with 32 professional bouts since 2006 holds a record of 16 wins, with seven knock-outs, and 15 defeats and one draw.

In an interview with Sun.Star Baguio, Golez said he is scheduled to square off against 24-year old Cris Alfante of Elorde Team in Paranaque City.

Alfante has 18 professional bouts since 2010 with 11 wins, six defeats and one draw.

Golez, a native of Compostela Valley in Davao, has been training at the Highland Stable for six years after his debut in June 22, 2006 winning via unanimous decision against Bonn Corales during their match in Davao.

"I am very excited to win this title fight," Golez said.

The La Trinidad-based boxer is fresh from a fifth round knockout win against Dayer Gabutan under the United Promotions Boxing event held June 10 in Mandaluyong.

In May 2011, Golez challenged Sirichai Thaiyen in Bangkok, Thailand for the WBC Youth World light flyweight title but failed after suffering a unanimous decision.

Later that year, he was able to snatch the WBC Asian Boxing Council minimumweight title from Thongthailek Sor Tanapinyo via technical knockout in Thailand but lost shortly after failing to win his match against Sammy Gutierrez for the vacant WBC Silver light flyweight title in Mexico.

Golez have had a string of defeats in 2012 and 2013 when he lost to Edgar Sosa via TKO for the WBC International flyweight title in Mexico followed by another loss to Prasitsak Papoem via unanimous decision for the WBO Oriental flyweight title in Thailand.

In his third attempt, Golez once again succumb to Wanheng Menayothi for the WBC International minimumweight title in Bangkok, Thailand.

Golez was able to take a break from his losing streak by scoring a draw with Wilber Andogan for the interim WBC Asian Boxing Council minimumweight title held at the PAGCOR Grand Theater in Paranaque City in 2013.

However, Golez failed another shot at the vacant WBC United States (USNBC) flyweight in August 2013 when he was defeated by Armando Santos via unanimous decision in Mexico followed by another KO defeat to Petchchorhae Kokietgym for the vacant WBC Asian Boxing Council Silver flyweight title in Thailand.

“Ibibigay ko lahat para makabawi sa title,” Golez said.
