Manicurist shot dead

BAGUIO City Police Station 2's top drug personality was shot dead by still unidentified suspect while cleaning her customer's feet in Hangar Market.

Authorities identified the victim as Chona Oliveros, also known as Chona Mapili, 47, a resident at Purok 7, San Luis Extension, who was shot three times around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 22.

Police reports reveal the victim was performing pedicure to one of her customer when the suspect came from behind and shot Mapili, after which, the gunman fled to unknown direction.

A witness who refused to be identified said she failed to identify the suspect after seeing a gun and run away from the crime scene.

According to police records, the victim recently surrendered to authorities as part of the ‘Oplan Tokhang and Oplan Double Barrel of the PNP.

The killing came a day after Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan reiterated to police on Wednesday to hasten the investigation of extra judicial killings in the city this year in the campaign against illegal drugs of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Domogan during his weekly press briefing ordered the Baguio City Police Office to act swiftly on the murders in the Summer Capital this year related to drugs.

“Tutukan nila ang kaso ng mga pagpatay. Marami na ang natatakot,” said Domogan.

Mapili is the 13th suspected drug personality killed in the city raising the number to 17. Records reveal the four alleged drug personalities were killed during a police operation.

“I hope the police hasten their investigation on the matter because we want to remove suspicion that the police are also behind the killings,” added Domogan.

Mapili’s killing also came just two weeks apart from the murder of another alleged drug pusher Franklin Bambico on September 9 who was also shot in broad daylight near his residence by still unidentified suspects.

To date, the police has yet to identify suspects in the killings of the 12 suspected pushers in the city despite the creation of a task force ordered by Domogan.
