Dumaguete hosts Batang Pinoy Games

ALL roads will lead to Dumaguete City as it will host this year's Philippine Olympic Committee-Philippine Sports Commission (POC-PSC) National Games on December 1 to 5 and the POC-PSC Philippine National Youth Batang Pinoy Games set December 8 to 13.

PSC William "Butch" Ramirez said PSC executive director lawyer Carlo Abarquez was the one who called Dumaguete City Mayor Felipe Antonio "Ipe" Remollo who was reportedly enthusiastic about hosting the two premier national sporting events of the POC and PSC.

Ramirez said Dumaguete has been a perennial host of the National University Games. The city is hosting the Uni-Games again in October this year.

The National Para Games might also be held in Dumaguete City but details of which will have yet to be finalized.

The PSC chief said he announced the calendar of events in the remaining months of the year so that local government units (LGUs) can prepare.

"I was in Davao and I received complaints that there had been conflict in schedules and that information from PSC often came late in the past," he said, adding that the presenting the calendar for stakeholders, particularly the LGUs, to also have something to look forward to before the year ends.

The POC-PSC National Games will be an oversight of PSC Commissioner Ramon Fernandez while Commissioner Celia Kiram is in-charge of the Batang Pinoy Games and Commissioner Arnold Agustin spearheads the National Para Games.

Ramirez also said that the Laro't Saya sa Parke program will continue in some 20 cities but they are eyeing more areas to implement it being a part of the Sports for All program of the PSC. (MLSA)
