Roger E. Vallena’s life as a journalist started when the Cebu Normal University undergraduate was asked in 1989 to anchor “Student Forum,” a weekly student program at dyLA.
Roger had a short stint with the Associated Labor Unions while dabbling as a stringer of the station before he was absorbed as a full-time reporter. After two years, he was hired as correspondent of Newstime Daily.
After the paper folded up, he went back to broadcasting, this time with radio station dyRC (now defunct) and later, dyRF.
He was hired in September 1994 as a part-time member of the Sun.Star Superbalita [Cebu] staff. He went full-time in 1996, and later became news editor of the paper.
