ONE of the victims who were found partially buried in a sugarcane field in Hacienda San Roque, Barangay Cubay, La Carlota City, Negros Occidental was a former detainee for the crime of theft in Bacolod City.
Captain Rosinie Cabuena, deputy chief of the La Carlota City Police Station, said they coordinated with the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) and they found out that alias “Follow-up” was jailed for theft in October 2024 and was just released this year.
On May 4, 2025, Follow-up, 29, and alias “Atong,” 32, both are residents of Purok Pilit Dos, Barangay 6, Bacolod City, were found partially buried in a sugarcane field in Hacienda San Roque.
One of them was found with masking tape on his face, while the other one was found wrapped in a tarpaulin.
Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) records showed that around 8:30 a.m., a hacienda worker was conducting a roving patrol when he saw track leading to the middle portion of the sugarcane plantation.
Cabuena said the two victims, who were neighbors, were identified by their live-in partners. They were last seen by their families on May 3.
She said Follow-up was charged with theft in the area of Police Station 2, and there were also reports that he was allegedly involved in theft incidents in other areas in Bacolod.
She said the families of the victims are also cooperative with the investigators to determine the identity of the assailants.
Cabuena said they are still gathering information to determine the background of alias “Atong.”
Investigation revealed that the victims’ bodies sustained bruises, possibly indicating torture.
The police believe that the victims may have been killed in other areas and dumped in Hacienda San Roque.
Cabuena said they are still waiting for the results of the post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death of the victims. (MAP)
