AT LEAST 11 passengers of a public utility jeepney (PUJ) were injured in a road accident in Sitio Mambucano, Barangay Cabatangan, Talisay City, Negros Occidental, on Monday, May 19, 2025.
Major Rhazl Jim Jocson, deputy chief of the Talisay City Police Station, said the passengers including five minors were on board a PUJ driven by Ian Mula, 49, a resident of Barangay Patic, Pulupandan.
Investigation revealed that Mula was traveling toward Guerero Farm in Sitio Mambucano at around 9:30 a.m. when the vehicle experienced mechanical trouble while ascending a curved road.
Jocson said the jeepney was in second gear when Mula attempted to shift into first gear. However, the vehicle rolled backward and tipped onto its side.
Jocson added that Mula lost control of the PUJ, causing it to move backward.
All passengers sustained minor injuries. Three of them were brought to a hospital but were later discharged.
Mula was unharmed and voluntarily surrendered to the police station.
Authorities are waiting for the decision of the victims’ families on whether to file charges against the driver. (MAP)
