
Two men riding a motorcycle were arrested for illegal possession of a bladed weapon and illegal drugs during a Commission on Elections (Comelec) checkpoint operation along Murcia Road, Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City, at about 10:37 p.m. on Tuesday, January 14.
The suspects were identified as Alias Aljon, 33, and Alias Romnick, 26, both residents of Barangay Blumintritt, Murcia, Negros Occidental.
According to Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) records, the suspects were flagged down by personnel from the Bacolod City Mobile Force Company (BCMFC). During the stop, Aljon dropped a transparent plastic sachet containing suspected shabu.
Police recovered from the suspects’ possession a sachet of suspected shabu weighing 0.5 grams with an estimated market value of P3,400, as well as a 10-inch knife from tip to handle.
The suspects are currently detained at the custodial facility of Police Station 7. They will face charges for violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and Batas Pambansa Bilang 6, or the Illegal Possession of Bladed, Pointed, or Blunt Weapons.
Colonel Joeresty Coronica, director of the BCPO, emphasized the police force’s commitment to public safety and the fight against illegal drugs.
“This successful operation underscores the effectiveness of heightened security measures during the election period and the dedication of our law enforcement personnel,” he said.
