2 USLS pupils bag gold medals at Hong Kong int’l math, science Olympiads

Two University of St. La Salle Integrated School Bacolod students bagged gold medals in the Hongkong International Olympiad.

They were Emmanuel Salgado III, Grade 6, Gold Medalist in Hong Kong International Science Olympiad 2023, and Ross Louis Pokharel, gold awardee in the Hong Kong International Mathematical Olympiad (HKIMO) Heat Round held recently.

Salgado was also named as silver medalist in the 2023 International Kangaroo Mathematics competition and bronze medalist in the 2023 Hong Kong International Mathematical Olympiad (HKIMO) Heat Round.

The competition has provided the Science enthusiasts to join in the 2023 Hong Kong International Science Olympiad (HKISO) final round through the online platform EKLAVVYA last June 11.

The results were released last July 6, 2023, through our official Facebook Page while the online virtual awarding will be on July 30, 2023, at 7:00 PM, via OCEC’s YouTube Channel.

This year’s participating countries are Australia, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Egypt, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Hong Kong International Science Olympiad (HKISO) is an International Science Competition held annually around the world.

It consists of four main categories: Physics, Biology, Chemistry & Integrated Science for students from Grade 2 to Grade 12.

It follows closely with Hong Kong School Science Syllabus and tests what students have learned on their level of content.

HKISO aims to inspire student’s curiosity and attitude toward discovery; promotes the understanding that progress has been happening in scientific fields for centuries; encourages the integration of ideas and subjects; encourages truth-seeking; and allows students to study important scientists who asked good questions and worked towards good answers.
