A TOTAL of 25 couples in Barangay Tangub, Bacolod City exchanged their vows in a mass wedding officiated by Mayor Greg Gasataya at Rodolfo Medel Sr. Elementary School on Saturday, August 16, 2025.
The event was initiated by the officials of Barangay Tangub led by its chieftain, Noli Villarosa.
Gasataya said it was the first mass wedding he officiated this year, and he urged other barangays to do the same instead of doing it with other couples at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC).
He said the City used to conduct mass wedding at the BCGC in the month of February, but it’s also a good effort of the barangays to hold it within their barangays for the convenience and their residents who are still unmarried.
He added that the officials of Barangay Tangub organized the event for free for the unmarried couples of the said village.
The mayor expressed his gratitude to Villarosa, as well as to the members of the Barangay Council for facilitating the mass wedding.
For his part, Villarosa said it was an annual program of the barangay for the unmarried couple to tie the knot with their partner.
He said the barangay allocated at least P100,000 for organizing the event with free cake and wine for the couples, adding that it’s now the second time of conducting a mass wedding, the first was in 2024.
“They are very luck to tie the knot because the one who officiated their wedding is also a lucky mayor,” Villarosa added.
Villarosa noted that at least 50 couples signified their interest to join the mass wedding, but they only accommodated 25 couples.
For those who were not accommodated, he said they can join in the next mass wedding next year.
Villarosa said the oldest couple aged 50 while the youngest aged 30.
The event was also attended by Civil Registrar’s Office head Hermilo Pauyon and kagawads of Barangay Tangub.
Gasataya said he already signed an executive order providing free services for the indigents and students who are processing corrections on their documents at the city’s Civil Registrar’s Office. (MAP)
