
A MOTORCYCLE driver and his two backriders died after they crashed into a truck in Crossing Cabanyohan, Barangay Tampalon, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental on Saturday night, May 17, 2025.
Kabankalan City Police Station records showed the incident was only reported on Sunday morning, May 18, where three individuals were killed after the motorcycle they were riding crashed into a truck around 9:40 p.m.
Police identified the fatalities as Rico Ian Samanero, 26; Robin Causapin, 19; and Jomel Hamaybay, 21, all laborers and residents of Sitio Igang, Barangay Tampalon, Kabankalan City.
Investigation showed Samanero, who was driving his Rusi motorcycle along with Causapin and Hamaybay, was on their way home when they crashed into a truck driven by Gerardo III Makilan, 40, a resident of Purok 2, Barangay Locotan, Kabankalan.
Police said the victims, who were observed to be under the influence of intoxicating liquor, were traversing a slope road, while Makilan was also traveling uphill on opposite direction.
The victims were thrown off into the pavement and sustained serious injuries. They were rushed to a hospital, but they did not survive.
Police said Makilan also surrendered to the police station and will be released after the lapse of the 18-hour reglementary detention.
It added that both parties have already reached an initial settlement. (MAP)
