MANILA -- The fate of Secretaries Ramon Paje and Jesse Robredo still hangs in the balance as President Benigno Aquino III wanted more time to effect changes in his Cabinet.
Both officials are still serving in an acting capacity since their names were not submitted to the powerful Commission on Appointments (CA) composed of selected senators and congressmen for confirmation.
Paje heads the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) while Robredo is the current chief of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
u201cWith regard to Paje, I will have one more meeting with Neric Acosta this week, and I think I’ll be done for the final decision, hopefully by this week,” Aquino told reporters on Monday.
Acosta is part of the President’s senatorial slate in last year’s national elections.
Though he lost, the former Bukidnon lawmaker and professor was widely seen to replace Paje after the ban on appointing losing candidates to government positions expired last May 10.
Earlier, Malacañang announced the appointment of defeated vice presidential bet and former Senator Manuel “Mar” Roxas II as Presidential Chief of Staff. He will join the Cabinet next month. (Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
