BACOLOD City Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez has approved the dismissal of the building inspector assigned to the Office of the Building Official (OBO) who was found guilty of grave misconduct, while an engineer was suspended for nine months effective March 12, 2025.

Secretary to the Mayor Atty. Marty Go said the two, whose names are being withheld, were charged with dishonesty, grave misconduct and conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service following a complaint filed by a businessman at the City Mayor’s Office (CMO) for allegedly soliciting money from his business establishment.

He said the complaint was filed on January 11, 2024 and an investigation was conducted for a due process, adding that in December 2024, the City Legal Office (CLO) has recommended for the dismissal of the two employees.

Go noted that in January 2025, the two employees filed their motion for reconsideration (MR), and the CLO released its decision on February 13, 2025, which was signed by the mayor, denying the building inspector’s MR following the findings of grave misconduct against him and the imposition of the penalty of dismissal from public service was affirmed.

Go said the engineer’s MR was partly granted where he was suspended for nine months.

“While his actions do not constitute grave misconduct, the amount to conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service which accordingly, punished with a suspension for nine months, in accordance with Section 50(B) Rule 10 of the 2017 Rules on Administrative Cases in the Civil Service,” he said.

Go said the two employees could still file a legal remedy at the Civil Service Commission. (MAP)
