ON HIS first day in office, Bacolod City Mayor Greg Gasataya voluntarily underwent drug testing on Monday, June 30, 2025, and tested negative.

Gasataya, along with some of his executive assistants (EAs), took the test at the City Health Office (CHO).

He said all his EAs and co-terminus employees will undergo mandatory drug testing, as they were appointed to serve the city.

“It’s part of the government’s campaign to ensure that we function well. It’s also part of our fight against illegal drugs, and we should set an example,” he said.

Although not mandatory for elected officials, Gasataya emphasized that they should still undergo testing as a matter of accountability.

Gasataya officially assumed office at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) around noon and expressed gratitude to Bacolodnons, including his supporters.

“Our priority is to continue providing services to the city. It’s our commitment to the people of Bacolod,” he said.

The mayor also urged city employees to follow Civil Service Commission (CSC) guidelines, adding that executive orders on administrative policies would be issued within the day.

For job order employees, Gasataya said he would direct department heads to ensure continuity of services without disruption.

He confirmed that Secretary to the Mayor Atty. Marty Go and City Legal Officer Atty. Karol Joseph Chiu will retain their posts, while Atty. Mark Mayo has been appointed as city administrator.

Atty. Reuben Sabig will head the city’s traffic management, assisted by EA Aaron Bais.

“Let’s work together. This is not about power or position — it’s about serving our constituents,” Gasataya said.

He also shared that his administration’s first 100 days will be guided by the word “heart” — a commitment to deliver immediate, actionable solutions rooted in empathy, integrity, and compassion. (MAP)
