THE Bacolod City Government will provide assistance to fisherfolks affected by the heavy rainfall brought about by the southwest monsoon or habagat, enhanced by Tropical Cyclone Crising on July 19, 2025.

Maricar Quiro, officer-in-charge of the City Agriculture Office, said at least 10 fishermen from coastal barangays reported that their pump boats were damaged due to strong winds and large waves.

“They failed to go fishing since last week especially, fishermen from Barangays 1, Sum-ag and Banago, and their pump boats were also damaged,” Quiro said.

She added that the City will provide fishing gear as well as materials to repair damaged boats.

Quiro noted that beneficiaries must be members of fisherfolk associations in their respective barangays.

The City Agriculture Office will also seek assistance from the Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) for the affected fisherfolks.

Quiro said Bacolod City currently has a total of 200 registered fisherfolks from various barangays.

She added that registered affected fisherfolks may also seek assistance from the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC).

On July 19, a total of 65 families from Barangays 27, Granada, Cabug, and Villamonte in Bacolod City were evacuated to various evacuation centers due to Tropical Cyclone Crising.

Bacolod City Mayor Greg Gasataya led the distribution of relief packs to the affected families, with assistance from the Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) and the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO).

Meanwhile, Quiro said there have been no reported cases of crop damage in Bacolod City, as they have not received any reports from local farmers. (MAP)
